1. ROM

   • it is directly connected to the CPU
   • it is a read only
   • is not volatile data is not lost when power source is removed
   • includes instruction on how to start the computer up

     • used for easy and fast information storage

2. RAM

   • holds data instruction that the computer is cuuruntly using
   • it is volatile which the data is lost when power souce is removed
   • VIRTUAL MEMORY
     • only used if RAM gets to full
     • its a secondary memory
     • it allows the computer to
   • random access memory

3. secondary storage

   • magnetic storage
     • uses silver colouring disks. both sides are covered with a magnetic film device
     • the read/write head will flicker quickly over the surface ass it reads the data
     • it reads data by putting it to 0s and 1s
     • holds 200 GB to 1 TB
     • not very portable can easily break
   • solid state storage
     • it can be found in a USB drive
     • doesn't have any moving parts
     • sometimes called flash drives
     • 512 GB for a digital camera card but a hard drives can be up to 4 TB
     • have a faster read a write time but can be expensive
   • is long term storage and data
   • optical storage
     • surfaces of CDs are covered by microscopic dots
     • cant edit to the data
     • can be found in USB dives and SD cards
