network performance

network performance

1. Factors affecting network preformance:

   • The number of devices connected
     • the more devices connected the more data is being transmitted so the chance for transmission errors if greatly increased slowing down the network speed
   • the bandwidth of the transmission medium
     • the more bandwidth the faster data can be directed and transported, and the faster the transmition media the quicker data is transported
   • the type of network trafic
   • network latency
     • Network latency is a measure of how long it takes a message to travel from one device to another across a network. A network with low latency experiences few delays in transmission, whereas a high latency network experiences many delays.
   • the number of transmission errors
     • there will be times when devices try to communicate with each other at the same time. Their signals collide with each other and the transmission fails.
