RELIABILITY

  1. Probability that the compressor performs its function without failure for a specific time under stated conditions.

    • FAILURE
      • Occurs when required pressure or airflow is not maintained. Examples: overheating, leaks, bearing damage.
    • FAILURE RATE (λ)
      • Number of failures per operating hour. Higher failure rate
        • AVAILABILITY
          • Availability = MTBF / (MTBF + MTTR) Higher MTBF and lower MTTR → increase → Availability
            • LOAD / USAGE
              • High load and 24/7 operation → increase → Stress and wear More usage → reduces → MTBF
    • MTBF / MTTF
      • MTBF → average time between failures (repairable system). MTTF → average time to failure (non-repairable component). Higher MTBF → higher → Reliability
    • MAINTAINABILITY
      • Ability to repair the compressor quickly. Good maintainability → reduces → MTTR
    • EQUIPMENT AGE
      • New → early failures possible Mid-life → constant failure rate Aging → wear-out increases failure rate Aging → increases → Failure rate
        • VISIBLE CONDITION
          • Leaks, corrosion, noise, overheating Poor condition → increases → Failure risk
            • INSPECTIONS / DIAGNOSTICS
              • Vibration analysis, temperature checks, pressure monitoring Early detection → enables → Preventive maintenance Preventive maintenance → increases → Reliability
    • ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
      • High temperature → overheating Humidity → corrosion Dust → internal wear Vibration → bearing damage Harsh environment → increases → Failure rate
  2. System: Industrial Air Compressor Function: Supplies compressed air to operate industrial equipment.
