Spike Prime Robot

  1. Task requirements

    • Self-determined criteria
      • SDC
        • The robot performs consistently on repeated attempts.
        • The robot completes the challenge efficiently
    • Prescribed criteria
      • PC1
        • Robot follows a safe path to the exit without hitting obstacles.
        • Robot stays within the designated path.
      • PC2
        • Distance sensor detects obstacles in front of the robot
        • Robot responds when an obstacle is detected.
      • PC3
        • Robot continues moving after avoiding the obstacle.
        • Robot avoids detected obstacles
      • PC4
        • The robot must complete the poison ivy challenge.
  2. spike prime robots

    • Other Motors
      • Extra motors can control colour sensor or other attachments.
    • Motor
      • Motors rotate to move the robot's wheels or attachments.
    • distance sensor
      • Measures how far away an object is so the robot can react.
  3. Algorithm constructs

    • sequence
      • Start motors → move forward → stop motors.
        • Instructions are carried out in the order they are written.
    • Assignment
      • Set speed to 50%
        • Assignment gives a value to a variable or setting.
    • select and condition
      • If the distance is less than 10 cm, turn left; otherwise keep moving.
        • The robot chooses between actions based on a condition.
    • Iteration
      • Keep checking the distance sensor while the robot is moving.
        • Iteration repeats instructions until a condition changes or is met.
  4. code constructs

    • IF statement
      • If the distance sensor detects an object closer than 10 cm, stop the motors.
        • An IF statement checks a condition and only runs the code if that condition is true.
    • FOR LOOP
      • Repeat moving forward for 3 seconds five times.
        • A FOR loop repeats a set of instructions a fixed number of times.
  5. Planned response

    • Poison Ivy challenge
      • The robot must avoid hitting the box and must go around
        • Use the distance sensor to detect the poison ivy zone and change direction when the object is detected.
    • Rockfall challenge
      • The robot must detect and push the object blocking its path.
        • Use the distance sensor to detect the object. If an object is detected, push the object out of the way before continuing.
