1. The Atom

   • Protons
     • Located in the nucleus
     • Mass = 1
     • Charge = +1
   • Electrons
     • Mass = almost nothing
     • Charge = -1
     • Where = Orbiting Nucleus
   • Neutron
     • Located in the nucleus
     • Mass = 1
     • Charge = 0

2. On the Periodic table

   • • the 6.941 (usually rounded to 7) is the mass number (the number of neutrons and electrons in the nucleus
     • an easy way to display the number of protons neutrons and electrons is through PEN
       • P = atomic number
         • E= same as P
           • N=Mass - Atomic
     • For lithium PEN would be
       • P= 3
         • E= 3
           • N= 7-3 =4
     • the 3 is the atomic number (number of protons)
