CPU(central processing unit)

CPU(central processing unit)

1. factors that affect performance

   • Clock speed
     • the operating speed of a computer, expressed in cycles per second (megahertz).
   • # of cores
     • the units that read and execute program instructions
   • Cache size
     • reduces the average cost (time or energy) to access data from the main memory.

2. Definition: The brain of the computer

   • it fetches instructions, decodes them and then executes the instructions
     • if you have a high processor it can decode information faster
       • however if the cache size isnt good itll take a long time to fetch the info
