Software Development Life Cycles

  1. Waterfall Model

    • Advantages
      • Simple and easy to understand and use
      • Easy to manage due to the rigidity of the model.
      • Easy to arrange tasks
    • Disadvantages
      • High amounts of risk and uncertainty
      • Difficult to measure progress within stages
      • Poor model for long and ongoing projects
    • The waterfall model illustrates the software development process in a linear sequential flow. Im waterfall model phases do not overlap.
  2. Iterative Model

    • Advantages
      • Progress can be measured
      • Results are obtained early and periodically
      • Parallel development can be planned
    • Disadvantages
      • More resources may be required
      • Not suitable for smaller projects
      • Highly skilled resources are required for risk analysis.
    • The iterative model illustrates at each iteration, design modifications are made and new functional capabilities are added.
  3. V-Model

    • Advantages
      • Simple and easy to understand and use
      • Works well with smaller projects
      • Phases are completed one at a time
    • Disadvantages
      • High risk and uncertainty
      • Poor model for ongoing projects.
      • No working software id produced until late during the life cycle
    • The V-Model illustrates where execution of process happens in a sequential manner in v-shape.
