RAM, ROM AND VIRTUAL MEMORY

RAM, ROM AND VIRTUAL MEMORY

1. RAM stands for Random Access Memory

2. ROM stands for Read Only Memory

   • Systems like BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) are examples of ROM
   • Generally a hard wired chip on the Motherboard

3. Virtual memory is only made when your PC runs out of memory

   • These two memory types are called Volatile memory
     • Volatile Memory is a type of memory which is erased when the computer is turned of
   • This works just like RAM but it is slower as it is used as a backup and is stored on the HDD
     • It is stored using a page file
