System Architecture

  1. Clock speed: is measured in MHz and GHz. Its sometimes refer to as clock-rate. It indicates how fast the CPU can run, it corresponds with how many instruction cycles the CPU can deal with in a second.

  2. Cache size: cache is a small amount of memory which is a part of the - located closer to the CPU than RAM. it is utilised to temporarily contain instructions and data that the is likely to reuse. The CPU control unit automatically checks cache for instructions before requesting data from RAM - frequently used data.

  3. Number of cores: A CPU can include one or more processing units. Each of these units is called a core. A core contains an ALU , control unit and registers. It is common for computers to have two, four or even more cores. CPU's with multiple cores have more power to run multiple programs at the same time, due to the fact, if there are more cores they they can all work together to improve the CPU's performance.

  4. ALU Von Neumann: Von Neumann architecture was first published by John Von Neumann in 1945.

    • Memory: The computer will have memory that
