Tempurature
- Temperature is a scale which tells us how hot or cold something is. It is usually measured in degrees celsius. Particles in a substance are constantly moving. A substance is hot because its particles are moving quickly. The faster they move, the higher the temperature.;
Heat
- The kinetic energy of all the moving particles in a substance is called the internal energy but it is usually just called the heat energy. This is measured in Joules (J).
How does a thermometer work?
- Most thermometers contain a liquid. As the temperature increases the average kinetic energy of the particles increase.The liquid expands and rises up the tube inside.
