Map content

factors that can constrain development

  1. ledcs growing primary products and sell raw materials e.g. coffee so they have less technology so more people work in agriculture

  2. at a low price MEDCS produce the finished product and sell it at a higher price, meaning MEDCS make more money

  3. if countries have no natural resources like oil they have to buy them from other countries that may charge a lot of money and so they cannot use that money for development

  4. poor countries that experience natural disaster like drought or hurricanes have products and crops destroyed or unable to grow, which means they cannot sell on to MEDCS and don't make money and they have to spend money on rebuilding crops and also buildings and so that money cannot be used for development

  5. the government may spend money on weapons which means they cannot spend it on development

  6. debt not being able to be repaid which means they don't have money for development

  7. it is difficult to transport food and water and raw materials to be sold on

  8. limited healthcare means that disease kills more

  9. limited education means family planning is unknown so parents may have more children than they can healthily raise, they may have to work in a lower status job that is paid less so cannot locally develop

  10. low status of women means they aren't educated and so don't have power of family planning and can't seek jobs
