2.4 Computational logic

  1. Boolean logic

    • Used to describe logical expressions
    • True and false are the only outcomes
      • True is denoted by 1 and false is denoted 0
    • Logic gate
      • The hardware which carries out the logical operations
      • They reside in the CPU and other digital chips in the motherboard.
    • Logic circuits
      • A diagram which shows how multiple logic gates connect together.
      • Logic circuits go from left to right, top to bottom.
    • Truth table
      • Lists all possible inputs and outputs for logic gates and logic circuits.
  2. Gates

    • Not gate
      • The output is the opposite of the input
    • AND gate
      • If both inputs are true, the output is also true, else the output is false.
    • OR gate
      • If either input A or B is true, the output is true, else the output is false.
