PREPOSITIONS

  1. A Preposition is a word that shows the relationship between nouns and pronouns in a sentence.

    • USE OF PREPOSITIONS:
      • To describe the position of something.
        • Eg.The dog is under the table.
      • The time something happens.
        • Eg. We was home by midnight.
      • The way something is done.
        • Eg. They started without me.
    • RULES & CONVENTIONS:
      • ENDING A SENTENCE WITH A PREPOSITION:Prepositions should be followed by a noun or pronoun. it is only acceptable to use a preposition at the end when the meaning of a sentence can change when the preposition is taken out. Eg. Where did you go? NOT Where did you go to?
        • USING 'LIKE' WHEN DESCRIBING SIMILARITY: The preposition 'like' should be followed by a object of the preposition (noun or pronoun) rather than a verb.
          • THE PREPOSITION 'OF' DOES NOT REPLACE 'HAVE': The preposition 'of' is often mistaken from 'should've', however it means 'should have'.
    • CORRECT PREPOSITIONS:
      • USING 'ON': Used to express a surface of something and used to specify days and dates. Used to indicate a device or part of the body. Used to indicate the start of something.
        • USING 'AT': Used to point out specific time and used to indicate something being done.
          • USING 'IN': Used for unspecific times during the day, month, season, year and used to indicate a location or place.
            • Eg. She walks in the morning, he looked in my car.
          • Eg. I'll meet you at 10am, the footy is at home tomorrow, he pointed at me.
        • Eg. He is on the phone, it hit my leg, on 21st December.
