Robust Programs KT Revision

  1. Logic, Syntax and Run-time Errors

    • Logic Errors-These types of errors occur when a program or section of a program's code does make logical sense. This can lead to the outcome of the program being different to what it was intended to be
    • Syntax Errors- These errors are the most common and occur when there is a crucial flaw in the code of a program. This leads to the program not working at all.
    • Run-time Errors- These errors usually occur when the program is running and can happen for a variety of reasons such as the system running out of memory or the program receiving corrupted data
  2. Iterative & Final Testing

    • Iterative Testing- A form of testing that tests the program as it it being written so that any flaws can be corrected during creation of the program
    • Final Testing-This is a test that occurs at the end of a program's development to see how the entire software performs
  3. Data Validation- The process of checking that data in a program meets a certain set of requirements/criteria

  4. Code Maintainability-Code maintainability is a key part of program defense. This is due to how maintainability makes program owners constantly service the program which makes it harder for loopholes to be found
