    1. Later decided to join the Augustinian order of monks.
    2. Successful Professor of theology at Wittenberg University
2. Born in 1483 Eisleben in Saxony
Thought he was a awful Sinner
1. The Catholic Church believed that faith and good works got you into heaven
  1. Martin thought that you could get in by Justification By Faith Alone
Problems
1. He became upset by the sale of indulgences
  1. Buying your way into heaven
  2. Martin thought how this was not what God wanted
2. 95 Theses
  1. After the sale of Indulgences Martin wrote 95 problems with the Catholic church
  2. He wrote and printed those 95 theses out as pamphlets
    1. The pope told him to take back his views and issued a papal bull or letter and eventually kicking him out of the church
      1. Frederick the wise had promised to protect Luther
        Luther took hiding and translated the New Testament into german
        Luther’s ideas became popular
        A war soon followed
        Peace of Augsburg
