1. CPU

   • purpose of CPU is to process data
   • the CPU uses the fetch - execute cycle, this is where CPU fetches
   • a CPU executes programs stored on the computer it takes in instructions and puts out data

2. fetch execute cycle

   • fetch: data and instructions
     • decode: for the CPU to make sense of the instructions
       • execute: this is the part of the cycle when data processing actually takes place the instruction
   • there are 3 stages fetch, decode, execute
