1. embedded systems

   • a computer system within another device
   • an example of embedded systems is : a fridge, sat nav or even a central heating unit
     • these are otherwise known as white goods

2. cache/ ram + rom

   • the more cache a computer contains the more it can store in its short term memory know as ram = random access memory
   • Rom = Read only memory an example of ROM is a cd because it only plays the music it was made to play

3. Virtual memory

   • relies on hard disk the method of moving it from VM to RAM is called disk thrashing

4. cpu = central processing unit

5. BIOS = basic input / output

   • firmware = permanent software programmed into rom
