3. virtual memory

   • When RAM is full, it is put on the hard drive, it simulates memory
   • It runs applications
     • it lets more memory used than there is in the system

4. Flash memory is used in USB, memory cards and solid state drives

   • Advantages: more reliable, no moving parts, very fast
   • Problems: costs a lot of money, can lose memory
