Spooling

Map content
Spooling
Items are sent to a hardware device and stored in a queue for processing
Usually applied to a printer queue
The files to be printed are sent to the printer server's hard drive and stored in a queue
- They are then printed in turn when the printer is ready
Spooling is required because of the difference in speeds between peripherals and processors
- Printers are very slow compared to processors
Allows for more than one computer to use the same printer
Allows the user to carry on working whilst they wait for their print job to finish
Doccuments are printed in the order of when they were recieved
- Can also be done using a system of priorities
