1. desktop computers

   • components of a typical desktop
     • monitor, keyboard , mouse , DVD drive
       • keybaord
         • are used to input character's while typing or entering commands there may or may not be a separate number key pad .
       • DVD drive
         • is used to read DVD s such as DVD-ROMs , a DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs and usally a DVD re-writer is fitted so that data can be written to a DVD-Rs and RWs it is a storage device .
       • mouse
         • is an input device and is used to move on screen pointing device to the user wants it to go on the screen ,mouse buttons are used to select options from a menu ,may be scrolling button
       • monitor
         • widescreen monitors are better for playing games and watching movies rather than office work . however widescreen can display documents side bye or rotated to display a document in full .
         • standard monitors - most office monitors are then normal 3:3 screens as to be viewed in the normal properties .
         • rotating monitors allow e.g. A4 page documents to be viewed in their entirety .
       • main case
         • contains componunts such as the motherboard , hard disc ,and power supply , it will also contain the network card and other componnts

2. portable computing devices

   • tablets, smartphones , netbooks , laptop computer
     • netbook computers
       • A netbook computer is usually a lot smaller than a laptop b. It also often has a smaller specification . Netbooks are not usually fitted with optical drives so it is made smaller and lighter . but they can be used to access emails , instant messaging , live web chats, and browsing the internet and most of the office tasks too .
     • tablet computer
       • Tablet computers are a portable device they have no pointing device or a physical keyboard . They are touchscreen that allows the user to move the pointer on the onscreen keyboard to carry out tasks they can be used to access emails , instant messaging, live web chat , browsing the internet and viewing photographs .
     • smartphones
       • combined a voice telephone , a personal digital assistant , a web browser , a calendar , and diary , a digital camera , a GPS system , a media player and the ability to run "apps" to carry out tasks .
     • laptop computer
       • has an integrated screen ,keyboard and pointing device . laptops allow work to be completed while by the user away from the office , a wireless connection will allow the user to access their emails, instant messaging , live web chat ,internet and viewing photographs
