Creating Software

  1. IDE (Integrated Development Environment)

    • Example:
      • Python IDLE
      • PyCharm
      • PyScripter
    • TREE:
      • Translator (Compiler and Interpreter)
      • Run Time Environment
      • Editor
      • Error Diagnostics (Debugging Tools)
  2. Programming languages

    • Low level Languages
      • 1st Gen: Machine Code (1s & 0s)
        • No translator need
      • 2nd Gen: Assembly Language
        • (Simpler command for each collection of 1s & 0s)
        • Uses an assembler to convert machine code
        • One assembly code = one machine code instuction
    • High Level Languages
      • 3rd Gen: High Level Language (e.g. Python)
        • (Complied or interpreted) One high level instructions, many machine code instructions
        • Easier to use to program for a programmer
      • 4th Gen: Declarative Language
        • Facts and rules stated e.g. SQL / Prolog (A.I Language)
      • Assemblers are not used to translate high level languages
    • The relationship of low level languages and high level languages
      • One to many (For every high level instruction there are many low level instructions)
    • Compiler translates entire source code in one go
