Biogeochemical cycles

  1. Air cycle

  2. Soil cycle

  3. Water cycle

    • Evaporation
      • Water in the surface turns into water vapor by absorbing heat energy from the sun
    • Condensation
      • As water vapor get his higher in the air and cools down, creating clouds
    • Sublimation
      • When ice directly converts into a vapor without passing through the liquid state.
    • Precipitation
      • The clouds, condensed water vapor, pour down as precipitation as a result of wind or temperature change
    • Transpiration
      • When the water precipitates, some of it is absorbed by the soil, meaning that the plants will later on absorb it too. Transpiration refers to the process by which the plants turn water into vapor
    • Runoff
      • Runoff is the process where water runs over the surface of earth. It also applies whe snow melts and runs off. When the water runs off through soil, it moves the top soil and takes minerals with it. This combines to form channels and then rivers and ends up into lakes, seas and oceans.
    • Infiltration
      • The water that gets deep into the soil and increases the amount of ground water table. This water is pure and drinkable.
    • The water cycle is the path that all water follows as it moves around Earth in different states in order to be replenished
    • Concepts and definitions:
      • Heat energy: is the result of the movement of tiny particles called atoms, molecules or ions in solids, liquids and gases
      • Subterranean rivers: rivers that flow below the surface.
      • Rain: moisture condensed from the atmosphere that falls visibly in separate drops.
      • Pure water: water from a source that has removed all impurities.
  4. How the nutrients move betweeen the living (biotic) and the non living (abiotic) matter.
