CONNECTIVE TISSUE PROPER
- LOOSE: Fibers create loose, open framework.
- AREOLAR:Widely distributed and serve as a universal packing manterial between tisues. It helps defending against infections.
- ADIPOSE: Store triglycerids and is found beneth the skin, around the kidneys and on the surface of the heart.
- RETICULAR: It forms the supporting meshwork or lymphoid tissue in lymph nodes, the spleen, the thymus and the bone marrow.
- DENSE: Fibers densely packed.
- REGULAR: Forms tendons and ligaments, also the fascia that wraps around muscles, blood vassels and nerves.
- IRREGULAR: Same structural elements as dense regular tissue, the bundles of collagen fibers are much thicker and arranged irregulary. It is part of the skin dermis and in the joint capsule of the limbs.
- ELASTIC: Allow the tissues to recoil after stretching, this is seen in the arterial blood vassels and walls of the bronchialtubes.
- LOOSE: Fibers create loose, open framework.
SUPPORTING CONNECTIVE TISSUES
- BONE: Solid, crystalline matrix.
- SPONGY BONE: Found in the ends of long bone and lacks of oesteons.
- COMPACT BONE: Consists of cylindrical structures (Osteons) and makes up the shaft of a lonf bone.
- CARTILAGE: Solid, rubbery matrix.
- HYALINE: Most abundant of all cartilage in the body, provides strong support while providing pads for shock absorption. A major part of the embryonic skeleton, costal cartilages of the ribs, etc.
- FIBROCARTILAGE: A blend of hyaline and dense regular tissues, is found in the intervertebral discs of the bony vertebrae and knee meniscus.
- ELASTIC: Similar to hyaline cartilage but is more elastic, its function to maintain the shape of the structure while allowed flexibility, Can be found in the external ear and the epiglottis.
- BONE: Solid, crystalline matrix.
FLUID CONNECTIVE TISSUES
- LYMPH: Contained in lymphoid system.
- Extracellular fluid flows in lymphatic vessels and the composition of it varies from one part of the body to another,
- BLOOD: Contain in cardiovascular system.
- BLOOD PLASMA: Pale yellow fluid, consist of water with dissolved substances such as nutrients, wastes, enzymes, plasma proteins, hormones, ions and gases.
- BLOOD CELLS: Are erythrocytes (Transport oxygen), leukocytes (Involved in phagocytosis, inmmunity and allergic reactions) and thrombocytes (participate in blood clotting).
- LYMPH: Contained in lymphoid system.
The major function of this kind of tissue are: Binding and supporting, protecting, insulating, storing reserve fuel and transporting substances within the body.
