Democritus atomic theory

Democritus atomic theory
Reasons to accept it
- Western scientists accepted in broad outline from the 1600s until about 1900 originated with Greek philosophers in the 5th century B.C.
Year of Creation
- 400 B.C
- In Acient Greece
Statements or assumptions
- Werner Heisenberg's statement
- Finally Weber Heisenberg proved that it is actually impossible to prove the exact location and speed of the electron
- Aristotle's statement
- But Aristotles disagreed and stated that the matter was made of 4 elements earth, wind, waters, fire; and then most later scientists followed too.
- Niel Bohr's statement
- Then Niels Bohr stated that electrons orbit the nucleus at fixed energies and distances. However, this was not true since later discoveries showed that electrons move in a wave like form.
- John dalton's statement
- he concluded that the various compounds were combinations of atoms from different elements that neither could be created or be destroyed.
- Rutherford's statement
- After the discovery of the electron, Rutherford concluded that atoms consisted largely of empty space with just a few electrons, while most of the mass was concentrated in the center which was termed, the nucleus.
- Werner Heisenberg's statement
Failtures of the theory
- The error of Democritus
- thought that atoms were the smallest units of matter - minus little hard spheres that cannot be divided into more fundamental particles. This assumption persisted until experiments in physics realization that the atom was composed of even smaller particles
- The error of Democritus
