"To Kill A Mockingbird"
- At first, Arthur "Boo" Radley is feared by Scout, thinking he is strange and creepy. By the end of the story, she thinks of him as a gentleman. According to Scout, "...she world see Arthur Radley escorting me down the sidewalk, as any gentleman would do..."(Lee 373). Arthur is referred to by Scout as a "gentleman", which is a stark contrast to her opinion of him in the beginning, which was with fear.
- Towards the beginning of the novel, Jem is shown as being arrogant toward Scout and everybody in general. He was pretentious and irritable. This was his constant type of attitude until sneaking into the Radley House one summer night. Nathan Radley shot at the kids, deeply affecting Jem's attitude. According to Scout, "...Jem stayed moody and silent for a week..." (Lee 77). After this particular event, Jem starts to become more humble and understanding of a situation. This can be seen when Scout wants to tell everybody about Atticus being the best shot in Maycomb. Jem forbids her to as he sees Atticus has his reasons for not telling anybody about it. Jem now demonstrates humility throughout this book and these are only two examples.
A character's view on a topic or another character, which can change over time.
- This can called a "character arc".
