What are atoms?

1. What are atoms composed by?

   • Protons, they have the same unique amount of protons
   • Neutrons, they cluster with protons in an atomic nuclei
   • Electrons orbit the nucleus forming

2. Electron Shells

   • Contain electrons with increasing amount of energy
   • Each shell contains a fixed maximum number of electrons

3. When is an atom stable?

   • It is stable when the outermost shell if full

4. Isotopes

   • They are atoms of the same element with different amount of neutrons
   • Some are radioactive, the nuclei breaksdown and forms new elements
     • This releases energy and sometimes subatomic particles are released
