Co-ordinate Geometry
Quadrants
- 1st Quadrant (x,y)
- 2nd Quadrant (-x,y)
- 3rd Quadrant (-x,-y)
- 4th Quadrant (x,-y)
axis
- y-axis
- Horizontal Perpendicular
- Distance of a point from x-axis is called y-cordinate
- Ordinate
- x-axis
- Vertical Perpendicular
- Distance of a point from y-axis is called x-cordinate.
- Abscissa
- y-axis
Need of Co-ordinate Geometry
- In order, to locate any point in a plane, we require two perpendicular lines. The plane is called Cartesian plane.
Location
- Origin
- The point of intersection of x-axis and y-axis
- Co-ordinate of origin = (0,0)
- Co-Ordinate Of a point
- If a point A denotes x and y respectively in the abscissa and ordinate, then (x,y) is the co-ordinates of point A.
- Co-ordinates of any point on x-axis are (x,0)
- Co-Ordinates Of any point on y axis is (0,y)
