ESL Approaches & Methods

1. Acceptance:

   • Teachers should create healthy relationships with their students.
     • Teachers should demonstrate acceptance towards students, their cultures, and traditions
       • Teachers should create a positive, healthy, motivating environment for students

2. Instruction::

   • Students should be given opportunity to participate in small group, whole group, partners and one on one instruction
   • Accommodations are needed to help students understand content and to succeed in class
     • Accommodations include: extra time to complete tests, assignments, notes provided, omitting questions, etc.

3. Must Haves to Succeed:

   • Multilingual Learners need various visuals like-pictures, illustrations and videos to assist them in fully comprehending content.
   • Multilingual Learners need manipulative's, hands on activities, read aloud's to help them comprehend content
