THIRD CONDITIONAL
We use the Third Conditional to speak about the situation imaginary in the past
- For example: "If you hadn´t been looking at your phone, you wouldn´t have burnt my toast"
STRUCTURE
- "Past Perfect" in the conditional sentence
- And "WOULD + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE" in the resulting sentence
We use the Third Conditional to talk about things we regret
- For example: If I hadn´t left you in charge of breakfast, you wouldn´t have burnt my toast
Many people believe that the "Third Conditional" is a bit strange, because it refers to imaginary things that did not happen in the past, so it is not very common to use this conditional.
That is why this conditional is used when a person regrets not having carried out an action in the past, in the present it affects him or he also regrets not having carried it out.
- For example: If I had finished cleaning my room my mom would have let me out
- As can be seen, it is an action that is not specified, because an action was not performed, that is why this conditional refers to imaginary things in the past.
- For example: If I had finished cleaning my room my mom would have let me out
There are three modals that can be used in the "Third Conditional", which are: 1.-Could, 2.-Should, 3.-Would
Example of Third Conditional: If I had studied, I would have passed the test
There are words with which we can guide ourselves for this conditional which are:
- "PRO HAD VERP"
- PRO= PRONOMBRE
- AUXILIAR: HAD
- VERP= VERB IN PAST PARTICIPLE
- PRO MO HA VERP
- PRO= PRONOMBRE
- MO=MODAL (WOULD, SHOULD.."
- HA=HAVE
- VERP= VERB IN PAST PARTICIPLE
- "PRO HAD VERP"
EXAMPLE:= You couldn´t have done the excersice if you hadn´t practice
