Conduction

  1. Examples of good conductors

    • metals
      • metals are good sources of conductors because they are
  2. Examples of bad conductors (insulators)

    • non-metals
    • gases
      • air
    • Styrofoam
      • Styrofoam is a bad conductors of heat because they have little air pockets which will let the heat escape, although they are used for house insulation to try and make sure that the heat doesn't escape from your home. but they have small air pockets so that all the heat in the house isn't compact together.
    • water
    • glass
  3. steps

    • step 1
      • when you heat metal up, the atoms of the metal item starts to react with the heat from the flame..
    • step 2
      • when the metal item has been heated for a short while, the atoms inside the metals item start to go "red" because they have been heated up start to vibrate very slightly.
    • step 3
      • when the metal item has been fully heated for a long period of time, the atoms all heat up and go fully "red" because they have reacted with heat.
      • when the metal item has reacted fully with the heat, the atoms are energised from the heat and the vibration of the atoms increase and spread through the rest of the atoms. so they all start to vibrate and are all heated up.
