System Architecture

  1. FETCH DECODE EXECUTE CYCLE

    • Fetch
      • the address is generated by the program counter and is carried to the memory address register using the address bus. the pc then updates and stores the next memory address. ready for the next round of the cycle. the data or instruction that is in the memory location is placed onto the data bus and carried to the processor an dis stored in the memory data register.
    • Decode
    • Execute
    • Repeat
      • repeats the cycle
  2. THE CPU

    • CACHE SIZE
      • The more data that can be held in the cache the shorter the trips the electric pulses need to male so this speeds up the processing time of each of those billions of electrical signals, making the computer faster overall
    • CLOCK SPEED
      • The clock speed describes how fast the CPU can run. this is measured in megahertz or gigahertz and shows how many fetch-execute cycles the CPU can deal with in a second.
    • CORES
      • CPUs with multiple cores have more power to run multiple programs at the same time.
    • The CPU is an electrical device within a computer full of switches it is responsible for processing all the instructions in a computer
