Cycles of Matter

Cycles of Matter

1. Carbon Cycle

   • Animals and plants break down sugars and release carbon dioxide
     • When an organism dies carbon stored inside of them goes to the soil.

2. Nitrogen Cycle

   • In the nitrogen cycle, nitrogen moves from the air into the soil, into living things, and back into the air or soil.
     • The air around us is about 78% nitrogen gas.
     • Nitrogen is called ''free'' nitrogen because it is not combined with other kinds of atoms

3. Oxygen Cycle

   • Producers release oxygen as a result of photosynthesis.
     • Most organisms take in oxygen from the air or water and use it to carry out their life processes.
