   • So react in a similar way to each other
     • With oxygen and water
       • Kept under oil
       • To create a metal hydroxide
         • An alkali
       • Forms hydrogen gas
         • With sufficient energy this ignites
       • Float on the surface - less dense
     • Give unique flame colours
   • Need to lose this electron
     • To gain a stable octet
     • Often given to a Group 7 non-metal
       • This forms an ionic bond
