Python Game

  1. Prescribed Criteria

    • Your story must have at least 10 different variables in total
      • use numbers and words for variables
      • use full words like 'health' instead of just 'h'
      • Make sure numbers and words change as player is playing
    • You must have at least 2 choices for each input
      • always give clear options
      • use if so both choices do different things
      • use else if the player does the wrong thing
    • you must use a WHILE loop
      • use the loop to keep the game going so it doesn't stop after one turn
      • start the loop with a clear rule
      • make sure the loop stops when the player wins or loses
    • You must use variables that match your storyline
      • Hint
      • clues found
      • Score
  2. Ideas for story

    • A very expenive diamond is stolen from the main hall and the museum is locked to cath the theif
    • player must search the crime scene to find hidden clues
    • interview with suspects and eliminate them with clues and guess the right theif to win
  3. Self-determined Criteria

    • use hints
      • player can type "hint" during the game to get a clue on what to do next
      • the game must subtract 1 hint every time the player types hint
      • A total of 3 hints will be given and after 3 hints the game should print "no more hints left"
  4. Exisiting text based adventure games

    • Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
      • Funny sci-fi text based adventure game based on a book
        • Strength : creative story
        • Weakness: Sometimes can be confusing
    • Forests of lyrics
      • Fantasy based game to teach coding
        • Strength: Easy to play and has a clear layout
        • wekaness: The story is a bit predictable
  5. Algorithm Constructs

    • Sequence
      • code running in order from top to bottom
        • print ("Welcome to the game!") name = input ("what is your name?")
    • Assignment
      • saving data inside a variable to use later
        • player health = 100
    • Selection and condition
      • Making choices in the game using 'if' statements
        • choice = input("Go left or right?") if choice == "left": print ("you found a way out!"
    • Iteration
      • Repeating actions using loops
        • while player health > 0 print ("you are alive")
    • Modularisation
      • Breaking code into separate parts
        • def print_books(): print_books()
  6. Coding constructs

    • If statements
      • Making things happen only if a condition is met
        • if score == 10: print('you win!")
    • FOR loops
      • Going through a list one by one
        • for i in range(1, 11): print(i)
