Keeping Data Safe and Secure

  1. Backup and archiving

    • Content and type
      • The content aand backup type is a key decision in setting out a backup strategy- due to the large amount of data it may not be paractical to carry out a full back up each day. A full backup is where all the data that needs to be stored is fully backed up each day. if a file needs to be restored you simply reload it from the last full backup taken. However a full backup takes the most time to store. Many users do a partial backup where the store the files that they are currently working on.
    • Frequency
      • The backup system will need to be completed at regular intervals. Many organisations rely on carrying out a backup on a daily basis. The timing to do this will be chosen , this is normally at the end of day when it is not effecting staff or production
    • Backup media
      • Many small business and homes produce data they would not wish to loose. So they can use items such as CD R/W and DVD R/W.
    • Location
      • Data can be kept in Local copy data or off site copy data.
  2. Security methods

    • Access

    • Passwords

      • Used to make data more secure.
