Input , Output and Storage Devices
Input
- Keyboard
- Each key on a keyboard has a little electrical switch it. When you press a key its switch completes a certain electrical circuit. A processor inside the keyboard records which circuits were completed and in what order then it sends thta information to your computer
- Webcam
- A webcam is a compact digital camera you can hook up to your computer to broadcast video images in real time. It captures light through a lens at the front using a tiny group of microscopic light sensors.
- Mouse
- A mouse uses a light source typically LEDs and a light detector to detect movement relative to a surface it is an alternative to the mechanical mouse which uses parts to sense movement/motion
- Microphone
- Microphones are a type transducer - a device which converts energy from one form to another. Microphones convert sound waves into the audio signal.
- Game controller
- The buttons and sticks on the controller send messages to the game console when you move or press them then on your screen the character changes direction or doe what you told it too do.
- Scanner
- Flatbed scanners is the use of Contact Image Sensors (CIS) Instead of useing mirrors and lenses found in a CCD scanner CIS scanners use red, blue, green LEDs to produce white light.
- Touch screen devices
- Unlike resistive touch screens, capacitive screens do not use the pressure of your finger to create a change in the flow of electricity . Instead, they work with anything that holds an electrical charge-including human skin
- Graphics pen
- A graphics tablet is a computer input device that enables its user to draw images or animation graphics with a special pen-like stylus just like you would do with a pen and paper
- Barcode Reader
- The scanning head shines LED or laser light onto bar code.Light reflects back off bar code into a light-detecting electronic component called a photoelectric cell.White areas of the bar code reflect most light; black areas reflect least
- Card machines
- This device works by you entering your pin number to give it autherisation to your account to take out the money
- Keyboard
Output
- Headphones
- Head phones are basically just two speakers that are clamped together sand fits firmly on your head.
- Moniter
- Computer Screen
- Speakers
- Speakers work by a coil moving back and forth creating soundwaves into the air giving us our music or letting us hear what people are saying on the tv.
- Printers
- Printers use hundreds of tiny guns to fire ink onto the paper the ink fires in the shape of the words or numbers you want you tell it to print when you press the print button this tells printer where the ink needs to be fired
- Projectors
- Projectirs work by a very bright light shines through a small LCD screen which throws a magnified image onto the wall/screen that you are using
- Laser Printer
- It makes a laseer beam scans back and forth across a drum inside the printer building up a static elecrtricity pattern. The static electricity attracts onto the page a kind of powdered ink called toner. Finally as in a phototcopier a fuser unit bonds the toner and printer together
- Plotter
- Plotters are a type of output device used commenly used for CAD (Computer Aided Design) tooutput l;arge voector designs such as architectural blueprints.
- Games Console
- Game consoles work by retrieving the information from the controller and processing that data and sending to yor tv screen and showing you the graphics
- Tablet
- Headphones
Storage
- USB
- Hard drive
- Memory Stick
- Disc
- PC card
- The thing you plug into your computer to save the memory.
