Types of Data

1. Data: the individual facts or pieces of information that when isolated do not make sense to people

   • It enters through input devices
   • Data classification
     • Numerical
       • Intengers, real, positive or negative numbers.
         • Intenger numbers
           • don't have a decimal point
           • positive/negative/zero
         • Real numbers
           • have decimals
           • positive/negative
     • Alphanumeric (text)
       • Combination of letters, numbers and special symbols.
         • Character data
           • Only contain one character. a (letters), 1 (digits), $ (special symbols)
         • String data
           • Combination of characters.
       • Uses the quotation marks to assign values
     • Audiovisual
       • The ones we can listen to or watch.
     • Physical
       • Taken from the environment or external resources.
     • Logic
       • Boolean numbers. True or false
   • Conversión of data
     • Data entry
       • This step is done through the input devices, the data goes to the RAM memory to wait for being processed.
     • Data processing
       • The processor performs the arithmetical or logical operations to transform them into information
     • Output generation
       • Results are showed through an output device
   • Storage of data
     • The results are stored inside the RAM memory
     • Variable
       • Place to save data temporary in the memory
         • They can be modified during the execution of a program
       • Guidelines to name them
         • Letters, number and underscore
         • The name has to start with a letter
         • Can be up to 255 characters
     • Constant
       • The symbolic address of a memory location that is permanent
         • Can't change their value during the process
       • Assigning values
         • Assignation operation
           • name of the variable/constant <---- value to assign
   • Space used by the data
     • depends on the data
       • ex. character 1 byte
