1. Firewall

   • Prevents harmful data entering your computer in order to keep it safe
   • Controls which programs can send and recieve data packets in order to keep it safe
   • The firewall controls which programs can be sent or receive data packets
   • Used to help protect computer network from intruders
   • Used when a program is trying to connect to another network

2. Anti-Virus

   • Quarantines any programs or files which are harmful in order to stop programes damaging our pc
   • Needs updating regularly to make sure that it knows the latest threats
   • Protects against malicious software so that it keeps are computer safe
   • scans the computer periodically
   • Should be used on email attachments and downloads because it will decide whether it is safe or not

3. Passwords

   • Don't tell any one you dont know your password especially banks details
   • Use a variety of lower case, upper case and symbols when creating a password. It must be at least 8 characters

4. Encryption

   • Encryption scrambles data packets so they become unreadable to others
   • To encrypt a message you would use a Cipher
   • You can only decrypt a message if you have a key therefore it is harder to decrypt
   • We use encryption when we buy products online so that are bank details are kept safe
   • Encryption makes the data packets become un readble without a or key
   • You can tell if a website is using encryption as it will say https and will have a green padlock next to it
   • Some websites dont use encryption because some of the websites are not genuine and unsafe

5. When writing a password you want to make sure that is uses Capital Letters, Numbers and other symbols

6. When opening emails you should be careful and look for signs which seem a bit unusual. Sometimes people receive emails from banks that a bank would not normally send

7. Malware

   • Trojan horse is a malicious type of software which acts innocent but steals your data which could then steal money or other things
   • A zombie is used to take control over your pc on the internet which could damage your pc
     • Most of the time the user probably doesnt know that he is doing a zombie

8. Data needs to be encrypted when shopping online so that the website you're buying off doesn't steal your data and then take money out your bank. You only see https when your are sending data packets to another place

9. Phishing is a scam. You could get an email from your bank asking you to log in but once you have logged in they steal your log in details and then take your money out your account.

10. To prevent phishing you shouldn't open any untrusted emails
