Client-side and Server-side coding

  1. Advantages

    • The security is good because the data cannot be intercepted when data is sent to the client like it can when it moves across the internet (Server-side)
    • The speed is faster because the data from the client doesn't need to travel across the internet (Client-side)
    • It is browser independent because it doesn't matter what browser the user has because the work is separately done on the server (Server-side)
    • Processing occurs on the web server, so it is more likely to be more powerful than the clients processing speed (Server-side)
    • The information does not need to be downloaded on to the client's computer (Server-side)
  2. Disadvantages

    • If a lot of users are using the server, it could overload and run slower or even crash (Server-side)
    • When data is transferred over the internet, there is more of a security risk (Client side)
    • Web page owner is reliant on client's processor speed, so if that is slow, processing is slow (Client-side)
    • Different browsers can process scripts in different ways, so a web page owner is unsure of how their web page will look on their screen (Client-side)
