Security methods in Hospitals

  1. Biometrics

    • Palm Print Recognition: Place palm on scanner it then decides whether it knows the print or not and grants you access to the room.
    • Fingerprint Recognition: The user places their index finger on the scanner it then reads the finger print and grants accesss if recognised.
    • Iris Scanning: Uses a camera to take a image of the iris it then matches this with a image in thecomputer database and then grants acess if recognised.
    • Speaker recognition:It recognises the pattern or rythme of the speech. It then matches this to a databse and sees if it fits andy patterns and then gives access to the user.
    • Advantages and disadvantages
      • Advantages
        • It is more reliable than traditional methods of access
        • It uses physical characteristics so they cannot be replicated by criminals.
        • The user does not need to remember passwords or codes.
        • Mobile devices can be used for facial recognition using their camera.
      • Disadvantages
        • It can make user concerened for privacy reasons.
        • They are not 100% reliable they can makes mistakes with identities.
        • Certain things can affect biometrics for example speaker recognition backround noise can ruin it effectiveness.
  2. Traditional Access methods

    • Physical security methods
      • security cameras to catch any activity that is happening that cannot be seen by people only by cameras.
      • security guards can control who enters the building and who doesnt they can also patrol with dogs.
      • Backups tapes are stored in fire proof safes to avoid physicasl damage and theft.
    • Software security methods
      • User access Passwords each user has a password that is unique with their user name and allows them to gain access to the network
      • Encryption is when dimportant documents are keyed in a cetrtain code which only the reciver has access to for the document to make sense to.
      • Data backup and recovery is used so thst data is not lost. It is saved a a set time to location a large distance away so any physical disasters cannopt distroy the backup copy of the data.
      • Virus Protection Is used to scan for any possible links or documents that may bring in viruses into the computer network.
