            1. During industrial revolution massive population shift occurred from south to industrial heart of the north. In 1851, more than half of the population of UK lived in towns and cities. 20th century, the shift was reversed as people moved south for service industry jobs, resulting in suburbanisation.
            2. Immigration: movement into an area or society.
              1. Eg. Between 1900 and 1945 Irish, Jews and Eastern Europeans immigrated into the UK to escape war and persecution.
              2. Emigration: Movement out of an area or society.
                1. Net migration: difference between numbers of people have immigrated and emigrated.
