P2.19 Isotopes

1. Atoms

   • Atoms consist of protons, neutrons and electrons

2. Describing atoms

   • All the atoms of the same element have the same number of protons
     • The amount of protons are called the Atomic number
   • The nucleus consists of protons and neutrons
     • If you add up the amount of particals in the nucleus you get the relitive atomic mass

3. Isotopes

   • Atoms of the same element will always have the same amount of protons
   • However they can have a different number of neutrons
     • When they do it's known as an isotope
