Categorical Predictors
DV: Continuous (e.g., symptoms)
IV: Continuous (e.g., stress) or Dischotomous (e.g., gender)
Polytomous Predictors
- Nominal scale of measurement with categories (i.e., discrete) which bear no quantitative relationship with one another
- In other words, it is not scalable
- Has more than 2 categories (if 2 then dichotomous
- To use a polytomous variable, we have to dichotomise it by:
- Collapsing the categories into 2
- Dummy Variables: Creating several dichotomous variables to represent the polytomous variable
- Collapsing the categories into 2
- Nominal scale of measurement with categories (i.e., discrete) which bear no quantitative relationship with one another
Dichotomous variables can be used in regression
