Optical storage:

advantages: cost effective and very portable.

disadvantages: not very durable and has limited capacity.

examples: CDs, Blu-ray and DVDs

data is written and read with a laser.

Magnetic storage:

advantages: cost effective due to having a larger capacity than solid sate.

disadvantages: not as durable to moving parts and reads/write slower in comparison to solid state.
