A Local Area Network is a network confined to one location or organisation.

WAN

A Wide Area Network is a network of LANS spanning wide area.

PAN

Personal Area Network is a very small area network, like a personal hotspot.

MAN

Metropolitan Area Network is a network within a metropolatan district.

VPN

Virtual Private Network is a remote connection to a network through the internet.

Switch

analyses each packet and sends it to the appropriate computer.

Hub

sends each packet to every computer on the network.

Router

Connects LANs together to make WAN.
