Levees
Levees are raised banks of alluvium found along the banks of some rivers in their old stage.
When a river floods it spreads out over the floodplain. As it quickly loses energy it begins to deposit it's load. It deposits the heavier, coarser material first and the lighter material is carried further. After many floods these deposits build up to form levees. levees are found in the old stages of the rivers missisippi, moy and liffey
