EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
For performance standards to be effective, they should:
define the job in relation to your work area and KRAs or KPIs
differentiate the job from others in the team or department
be job related and realistic
be worded in clear and concise language
be consistent with organisational culture, procedures and practices
reflect the performance context
POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
KPIs are used to guide everybody towards a strategic business plan or mission. They are used to measure how each employee's work contributes to the achievement of organisational goals. A well-designed KPI must have a measure attached to it so that you can monitor and evaluate performance. Role and/or performance ambiguity are the main contributing factors for:
workplace stress
conflict
mistakes and errors
workplace disagreements and discontent
employee attrition rates/turnover
You cannot maximise your efficiency and effectiveness without knowing the standards of performance required - along with specific skills, knowledge and attitudes required to meet and exceed these standards.
