What Charles Darwin's contribution to the theory of evolution?
After extensive research, Charles Darwin developed a theory to explain how organisms change over time.
Natural selection
A process in which organisms better adapted to to their environment tend to survive, reproduce, increase in numbers, and pass their traits to succeeding generations.
Individuals in a population exhibit heritable variation in traits.
Organisms have more offspring than can survive on available resources.
Variations that increase productive success will have a greater chance of being passed on.
Variation
Individuals in a population exhibit heritable variation in traits.
Variation is inherited differences between of the same species.
Variation may provide advantages to some individuals
Variation may result in changes to a population.
Overpopulation
Organisms have more offspring than can survive on available resources
Competition for food, habitat, and other resources contribute to the need to overpopulate.
The threat of predation also contributes.
Natural Selection
Variations that increase reproductive success will have greater chance of being passed on.
Adaptation: An inherited or learned trait that increases an organisms chance of survival its environment.
Structural:owls, leaf bugs, and trees or plants
Behavioral: which are possums and snowy egret
