Expotential growth

There were 10 times as many people living as there had been 300 years before in 1700

Not only is population increasing but the rate of increasing is becoming greater

Birth, rate, death rate and natural change

Natural increase is the birth rate that exceeds the death rate

Natural decrease is the death rate that exceeds the birth rate

The demographic transition model

Stage 1

High birth rate

High death rate

Both fluctuate because of famine

Stage 2

The death rate decreases, birth rate stays the same and population grows

Stage 3

The birth rate drops rapidly, death rate continues to decrease but more slowly, population grows but not as fast. this is happening in places such as India and kenya

Stage 4

Low birth rate

Low death rate

Birth rate tends to fluctuate depending on the economic situation

The countries that are experiencing this are USA, France and Uk

Stage 5

In Italy, Germany and countries in Europe the birth rate goes very low and falls below the death rate

The death rate has increased slightly because of ageing population and the total population starts to decrease
