21 PEOPLE HAVE TO USE INFORMATION TO MAKE IT STICK
- There are two ways to move things from working memory into long-term memory:
- repeat it a lot
- connect it to something they already know
-
Repetition physically changes the brain
- The brain has 10 billion neutrons that store information.
- Neutrons fire every time we repeat the information. When 2 neutrons are activated, the connection between them are strengthened.
- So, if we want to remember something, we need to repeat that so the neutrons of the brain can activate to make it stick.
-
- Schema is a combination of other parts into one big part from one thing. Schema help to organize informations for the memory.
- Example: A head is a schema because it include brain, eyes, nose, ears, etc.
-
Experts store information as schemata
- Schemata is the plural for schema.
